SUNRISE IN GLORY (Hunt, 1983) Photo OGB Slightly ruffled buff pink standards have a few faint lilac veins. Salmon pink falls have maroon veining in the signal area. Tests positive for the tangerine factor and is still one of my most reliable parents for the pale pinkish and pinkish-yellow blends. Leo's Lort-Chen X Esther's Son. Its standards are held open by a strong midrib and its offspring frequently combine open, erect standards with glowing yellow style arms. Crossed with Granted Wish, it produced Altogether Lovely and Clouds of Joy. With Joint Venture it produced some excellent pastels; with pseudo-plicatas it has produced both pseudo-plicatas and pastels. With one of Gene's pink halfbreds, it produced a pink-and-yellow blend that actually grows pinker with age. Very popular, perhaps in part because of its track record as a parent. Recommended for beginners. One of the first iris I named – and I assure you it struck me as a quite a challenge. Gene had been especially proud of this breakthrough in his pinkish lines, and I wanted a name that would be appropriate for its colors. "Sunrise" was the best description I could come up with, and I finally found inspiration in a line from an old hymn: "Sunrise in Glory is waiting for me". |
