Malevil
Gardens will be handling my 2005 introductions: Attaboy,
Cup
Runneth Over, Damfino, and Skies
Always Blue. This page includes more that are on track for introduction, based
on '04 evaluations.
Even more are on our Silver
Selections, and Watch List -- but there are
also a few Lost Sheep. Others are exceptional
Breeders that may or may
not be introduced eventually. [Click here
for more information about the selection process itself.] The list is longer than I'd expected, not as
large as I'd hoped. Had there been no gardening hiatus, there should
have been at least 100 introductions by now, just from seedlings already in the
pipeline when I put my hybridizing kit in storage. These survivors
are the tough ones, but the information you find on the individual
pages will vary greatly. I'm still struggling to recover my records from
the lost years. Sometimes, you'll find only a photo. Others, just a
description from my seedling notebook made when that one went on my "watch
list".
Number. The first two digits of each seedling number indicate the
year that the cross was made -- but not necessarily the year the seeds were
cultured. The last set of crosses made before the hiatus was
in
1995. Click on the seedling number to see a photo and my notes about
the selection.
Pod/Pollen Parents. Pedigrees for seedlings
listed as parents can be found in the Breeder's
Digest.
Code. The classification code under which it
will be registered. Seedlings from wide crosses are often difficult to
classify and will not be introduced until the appropriate code can be
determined.
Location. Malevil Gardens will be handling my
future introductions. This is just our worksheet for tracking which
ones have been verified in each garden.
Comments. A name in the comments field shows
that a seedling has already been registered and is now being grown for
increase. TBR indicates that it will be registered, and may or may
not bear a reserved "garden name" at this point. The rest
have passed the gardenability tests and are of introduction quality, but
some will be eliminated by the "have better now" screen.
Some of the old seedling bed
maps are online, with photos. Most of those seedlings are
long-gone, but such pages do provide some insight into the selection process.
